2022 US Mexico Agenda

The year 2023 is the last full year of the López Obrador administration. After January 2024, the country will enter into a major national election for president, the entire congress, and about one third of all governorships. Getting 2023 right will matter for businesses, investors, and anyone interested in Mexico. Given that the current Mexican government will be well into its fifth year, it is possible to forecast what we can expect based on a number of key drivers. For one, the major axes of the López Obrador administration are already evident. Second, his policy preferences and their consequences are within sight. Third, his legacy is already within view. The López Obrador government has slowed down the implementation of Mexico’s 2013-2014 energy reform, and consolidated the power of CFE and Pemex.
