9:45 AM | Opening Keynote Address: The New “Golden Age” of Natural Gas
The new decade of natural gas is ushering in a “Golden Age” of sorts. With a 100 year supply and projected long range affordable prices, the growing demand for natural gas has begun to outpace the interstate transportation abilities of the industry. With a growing demand for distribution systems to be updated, reinforced, and extended to serve more customers, how is the “utility of the future” to be prepared to take advantage of this unique time? Especially when the quest is to modernize infrastructure, the traditional regulatory model and creative ways to deal with “dark forces” could limit the industry’s ability to sell gas and meet our customer’s needs.

Attendees will be introduced to a statistical approach developed by the instructor that quantifies the cost/benefit of hedging. They will be exposed to analytical tools that quantify risk in budgetary terms. These tools are used by more than 35 firms, managing more than $65 billion in cash flows, to communicate and document their rationale for hedging.
